Lollapalooza >> 2012 Lineup Announced!

Lollapalooza 2012 >> not surprisingly boasts another killer lineup for fans of all genres but more importantly music lovers in general. The music freaks of the industry now know who to look forward to in Chicago during the first weekend of August. Personally, I'm looking forward to Bloc Party the most since they are definitely one of my favourite bands of all time and I've only seen them once back in 2008. They have a new album dropping this year so there is a lot on the bloc to be excited for.

Some other notable dope bands and artists that will grace us at Grant Park: Red Hot Chili Peppers [bucket list band], The Black Keys [superb live], Jack White [the king], Childish Gambino [saw him last night], Neon Indian [seeing them tonight!] and Washed Out [shall not miss this time].

Then there's the tent. Last year, Perry's went off with an insane lineup of DJ's and electronic producers [Skrillex, Afrojack, Girl Talk, to name a few] and this year it might be even more off the hook with Kaskade, Nero, Justice, Bassnectar, Knife Party, Zeds Dead, SBTRKT and Calvin Harris [assuming they'd all be in the tent i/o of a main stage like Deadmau5 last year]. With this shit ton of ear candy on the bill I may as well be camping in the dance tent.

Check out the rest of the currently released lineup below. See you in the City of Wind!

New Videos >> DJ Noah Wylie at Wild Knight

DJ Noah Wylie >> Wild Knight

Videos from Noah Wylie's set >> at Wild Knight on Saturday have been posted to the zBORED YouTube channel. Resident DJ Noah killed it again like he always does on the decks in Old Town Scottsdale. He threw down a plethora of ill freshness as well as some classic throwbacks and turned a somewhat sparse Easter/Passover-weekend crowd into a madhouse with dope recuts of Deadmau5, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia and Calvin Harris, to name a few. My favorite point of the night was nearing last call when Noah dropped a remix to 'Somebody That I Used to Know' to send us off.

New Videos >> Factories & Ladylike at Crescent Ballroom

Videos from the Factories >> CD release show at Crescent Ballroom on Thursday night have been posted to the zBORED YouTube channel. The night featured opening acts from Chasing Kings [Los Angeles] and Ladylike [Phoenix] who warmed up the downtown crowd with some unique styles of rock. Chasing Kings, fronted by a dude in overalls who sang, played guitar and tickled the ivories, played a fun show to kick things off at Crescent.

Ladylike got it going next and I pretty much loved that set. They played with tons of energy, threw down a few covers and kept it all the way live with uptempo happy, happy retro style jams that seemed perfectly fitting for an 80's movie montage of your choice [insert b-rolls of hopeless romantic doing friend zone activities with girl next door to the tune of the described aforementioned or this jam]. They ended with another happy na-na-na song as Factories simultaneously took stage and finished out the set with them which I thought was pretty rad. I'm most definitely going to check out more shows from Ladylike in the future.

Factories CD Release ShowFactories opened their own set with 'Canada' after their jam with Ladylike. It was my second time seeing the Tempe homegrown band at Crescent since first seeing their performance opening for Toro Y Moi last month. This was a much better show for them. Their March show was interesting enough to get me to this show but Thursday night was a whole new level of energy. The stage was theirs and they owned the crowd too. They played most of the songs on their Together release [add this album on Spotify immediately because it's tight] which were all dope but I think my favorite was one of their last songs which was a cover of 'Dancing In The Dark' by Bruce Springsteen. I wish I got footage of that too but I was busy dancing my face off like Courtney Cox and the dude from the video resembling Hollywood from Mannequin. You know [1:40].

It was a really fun show and I can't wait to see Factories again. I'm pretty glad they rep Tempe and are part of a desert scene that is just starting to bubble again. They are cool peeps too; it's always a treat to meet genuine talent with genuine modesty. I'll keep you posted on any of their upcoming shows. Peace.

New Videos >> Voodoo Glow Skulls / Goldfinger / Face To Face at Great American BBQ & Beer Festival

Videos from the Great American BBQ & Beer Festival >> in Chandler have been posted to the zBORED YouTube channel. This past Saturday's festival was full of the obvious barbecued food and beer galore along with a quadruple treat of ska & punk bands that ruled the genre back in the day.

Great American Barbecue & Beer Festival

The day of skankin' and drankin' kicked off with Buck-O-Nine doing a 45 minute set that finished with 'My Town'. Then Voodooo Glow Skulls took stage for another set of uber-nostalgic skapunk [btw, although The EDGE/X 1o3.9 is no more you'll be happy to know that Ska Punk radio with Gadger is still alive online and in-app via Live365] which included my favorite song of theirs 'Say Goodnight'.

Next up was Goldfinger who I haven't seen in concert since their last Arizona show at The Nile in Mesa back in 2001. They gave a shout out to the peeps who were at that show and based on crowd's response there were a lot of us Nile attendees present on Saturday. Not surprisingly, frontman John Feldmann orchestrated many a strange diatribe and antics aplenty that included stopping during 'Miles Away' to attempt having a crowd member eat a Twinkie out of drummer Darren's Coconut Ass. Apparently they've done this at other shows but with the number of old punks' kids around and police officers surrounding he decided avoid trouble with the law and chug a beer from another fan's smelly shoe instead. Check out the shenanigans in the video below.

Finally, the headlining Face To Face jumped into their set as dusk fell which included a 3-song encore. Pits formed from the get go and punk rockers united to enjoy a set that was a million times better than their reunion tour show last summer at The Nile. They played songs old and new but my favorites were the ones that took me way back like 'I'm Trying' and 'Disconnected'.

The band flew into Phoenix just for this show. We got to chat with frontman Trevor Keith after the show about always loving to play the desert. It's the first place they played when they first started to tour nearly two decades ago and the fans are true punks. The sunny weather was spectacular, the food was delectable, the beer was refreshing and the music was reminiscent of the good ol' days when high school, skating and house parties were standard in life's agenda.

Face To Face is doing an acoustic set at Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix on April 13th. It should be a good show at my favorite venue in town.

New Music >> The Used

The Used Vulnerable >> hit stores today! It's their 5th studio album in their decade since forming and first since Artwork nearly 3 years ago.

The Used >>Vulnerable

I've given it 2 revolutions today and so far I really like it. It's exactly what you'd expect from The Used: predominantly fast-tempo, filled with abundantly heavy guitar and uber loud vocals from Bert, of course. The one thing I've admired about this band over the years is their consistent formula and ability to keep the sound fresh. This album just may make it into my favorites by The Used just as I've gone back and forth across their repertoire of other releases.

I cant wait for these guys to make their way back to the desert again so I can rock my face off again like at Marquee in 2009. In the mean time, go cop this disc for $11.99 at Zia or on iTunes for the same price if you opt out of the hard copy. Do it.

New Video >> Toro Y Moi at Crescent Ballroom

Video from Toro Y Moi >> at Crescent Ballroom on Monday has been posted to the zBORED YouTube channel. The Red Bull Academy spotlight featured him with desert homegrown opening acts Factories [Tempe] and Yus [Phoenix].

Factories

Yus kicked off the evening with his keyboard, mic and synths galore. He had some cool loops in those first 10 minutes but that's all I gave him before I headed back out to the patio. I was thirsty and he seemed so nervous and awkward that it seemed contagious and I was getting sad. His set was followed by Factories, an electronic ensemble consisting of keyboards and guitars and a variety of vocals. Other than the girl on keys dancing like a goofball most of the time I thought they were pretty dope. I've already added their album Together on Spotify. They seem like a cool trio too; after the show we got to chat with them about their upcoming SXSW show [Austin] and CD release party [also at Crescent, April 5th].

Toro Y Moi >> Crescent Ballroom

Finally the headlining Toro Y Moi, aka Chazwick Bundick, took stage. I was pleased I finally didn't botch an opportunity to see this guy live and direct after having tickets already 3 times prior. This was a great show. He had 3 other dudes performing with him: 1 on drums, 1 on guitar and another on guitar, backup vocals and an Akai MPK MIDI controller which is almost exactly like the one I have. They played every single track I favor across all of Toro Y Moi's LP's and EP's like 'All Alone', 'Still Sound' and 'Blessa'. They even did an old school cover of 'Saturday Love' by Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal [below].

Overall it was a really dope show. It's a great venue and it was worth ditching class to listen to some great electronic music, dancing and drinking some beers. I think Chazwick had a nice time meeting us too.

Toro Y Moi > at Crescent Ballroom tonight

Toro Y Moi returns > to the valley for the first time since last year's South By Stateside festival at Sail Inn in Tempe. I'm super stoked for the show tonight at Crescent Ballroom because 1) I always love a show at Crescent and 2) this will be the the first time seeing Toro Y Moi live even though it's the 4th time I've had a ticket to ride [long story short: conflicting festival time slots, flu, hangover].

Toro Y Moi

I've really become a fan of Toro Y Moi over the last few years because I've gradually shifted a lot of my musical moods to this electronic-infused, chill-style genre and now as an amateur producer and music-obsessed geek I just get inspired by such robust talent stemming from a one-man tech-savvy artist like him, Washed Out, Tropics, etc.

Stateside Presents is hosting an informal Q&A with Toro Y Moi today at 5pm so get to Crescent Ballroom early if you want to chat with him otherwise the show starts at 7pm. If you want to bike and lightrail and bike with me and some of the party posse just send me a tweet for the deets. See you at the show!
