Wonder Showzen Photos > Picasa Web Revival

Google+ Photos > being the music freak and geek I am, it's been a fun first week on Google+ getting to the know the new social platform and how it's similar to Facebook, different than Twitter or vice versa. Being in the infancy in what I think will most certainly be a game changer I've been thinking about how the advent of Google's new Facebook nemesis will again change our lives but I'll save that for another social-dedicated post once I've had an opportunity to experiment with the Plus a little more.

311

The advent of Google+ got me to revive my Picasa Web account. Since 2004, I always thought it was a great way to manage and share photos and Google did it so much cleaner and user-friendly than the million other interfaces out there like Flickr, Snapfish, etc. Then I got the iPhone in 2007 which pretty much laid the Cybershot to rest and gradually started to move photos to purely MySpace then Facebook then Twitpic then yfrog and now a messy combination of the aforementioned. As a daytime social sage, I am constantly experimenting with every new social treat out there but job scope aside, I am a strong advocate of consolidation.

I opted to remove the sharing of all my Picasa albums through 2007. There are some great gems in there but being a quarter Japanese and 3 quarters drunk I was a serial paparazzo that would never be mistaken for a pro. I don't have the time or the Adderall to go through and filter those so I've just hidden those thousands of pics in those hundreds of albums to start anew with some freshness. While looking back on some of the most excellent shows I've been to over the years I decided to take some of those pics and make an album dedicated to the great music I live for.

So here you go, 100 of my favorite moments in music captured by yours truly in an album called SHOWz. I'm sure you can recall some or many of these. If so, feel free to tag yourself or leave some comments. I'd love to relive some of these or get filled in on some moments that the Stoli probably erased. If you're not yet on Google+ feel free to holler and I'll add you [just send me your Gmail address > email marc@zbored.com or tweet @marcdzb].

New Music Tuesday > AJBEE + DJ Rolemodel

New Mixes fo yo ass > new out this week are fresh summer mixes from a few of my favorite up-and-coming DJ's. From my old hood to my homebase come some speakerbox fuel from AJ BEE [BayArea.CA] and DJ  Rolemodel [Scottsdale.AZ].

DJ Rolemodel

DJ Rolemodel Summer 2011 Workout Mix > just in time to put the finishing touches on your beach bod it's Rolemodel's latest workout mix. It features a wild array of the new shit like 'Put It On Me' from Benny Benassi & Pitbull and newly mixed classic illness like 'Where's Your Head At?' from Basement Jaxx. I love that he threw Alice Deejay's 'Better Off Alone' and Gigi D'Agostino's 'I'll Fly With You' down as the outros and not letting peeps forget about what tracks helped pioneer modern dance music. But this being only audio you really don't get to fathom how crafty Rolemodel actually is because if you catch him live around the valley like American Junkie on Saturday nights you'll witness him also mashing up videos and incorporating an even wider array of genres into the set. This mix is your ideal soundtrack for your pre-Independance weekend sweat sessions so get after it immediately. Download DJ Rolemodel's new mix here.

DJ AJ BEE

AJ BEE w/ Joey Camacho Progressions of the Night Vol. 02 > AJ BEE returns with more hardness for your earholes. If you like House, Electro and Dubstep then you need this mix stat because AJ brings it hard in the second volume of this collaboration with Joey Camacho. I dig the variety this mix offers in cuts from Dev to Lonely Island to Kaskade to LMFAO to Swedish House Mafia and I love how deep it gets about 45 minutes in with some ridic BPM and some DNB that sounds like Doc P. It's the fucking party mix so don't celebrate this weekend without it. Download DJ AJ BEE's new mix here.

Interestingly, there are some random similar track selections in both these mixes. Both fellas intro w/ Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep' and throw in some Basement Jaxx and Alice Deejay as I previously mentioned. But both gents mix them in with their own personal touch and their form is identifiable when you hear it. So celebrate your freedom with a few FREE mixes that are dope to the max. Happy 4th!

New Music Tuesday > YACHT

YACHT Shangri-La > fresh out of the new music oven is the synthpop duo's 5th studio release and 2nd on DFA Records Shangri-La. The Portland-spawned Jona and Claire return with their familiar electric sound, with funky driving bass lines and playfully retro yet modern technique.

YACHT

YACHT's 2-year vacay breaks with the fun-filled, quick-tempo opening track 'Utopia'. This intro is packed with rapid guitar-strumming, rarely chartered keys, break beat drums and of course the classic harmony of Jona and Claire. A superb way to set the tone for what eclectic mixes lie ahead, electronically and vocally. (more…)

New Music Tuesday > Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys Suck It and See > today the band spearheading our new era British invasion release their latest studio album Suck It and See.

Arctic Monkeys

This long-awaited LP from Alex Turner and company rocks pleasantly arctic with not too much deviation from their familiar Beatles-meets-the-Fratellis indie sound. The opening track 'She's Thunderstorms' is the perfect intro which sets the mellow tone for the front half of the album and allowing for gradual up-tempo for the back half.

The first single 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair' features strong vocals and thick chords from Turner along with some tight distortion and sporadic stops. Perhaps the aforementioned or the substantial iPod/YouTube playtime might make it the strongest track.

On the other hand, the second single 'Brick By Brick' might be it's weakest. The verses' backup vocals are uncharacteristically annoying and the lyrics are less-than-clever at best. But rest assured that this particular excerpt from the release is it's only flaw as the rest of the album hits all the right notes and any will make good additions to your summertime playlists so pick this shit up. Do it.

Memorial weekend #intervention > Above & Beyond

San Diego summers > mean Intervention Sundays at the Hard Rock Hotel downtown. The 2011 season of rooftop pool parties in front of the illest DJ's on the planet just kicked off this month and has already boasted power sets by Paul Oakenfold and Benny Benassi. This monumental Memorial weekend mayhem was fueled by Armin Van Buuren [SAT] and Above & Beyond [SUN]. Fucking. Brilliance.

Stir Crazy kick-started the party with some decent house on the green. It was a small hungover crowd initially and it was chilly for a minute but sometime around 2pm those clouds peaced out, the beats dropped harder and the green was covered with a massive party [this is some of the craziness getting stirred up in it's lukewarm stage].

At 4pm sharp the Brits hopped on the decks and set it off. Paavo and Tony of Above & Beyond eased in with some euphoric illness while the rest of the scattered party migrated front stage and proceeded to get moving for real [brilliance in motion below]. These crafty blokes were the perfect backdrop to a Sunday Funday afternoon in sunny southern California.

The p-posse will definitely be definitely making a trip back to SD this 4th of July weekend to do it again for Gabriel & Dresden and Edward Maya, crunching bottles of Ketel and Patron. Jump right in and until then, you stay classy.

Nu Muzik > iiO

iiO Exit 110 > it’s hard to believe it’s been an entire decade since iiO dropped ‘Rapture’ on us and changed the dance scene forever. Today NYC’s Markus Moser and Nadia Ali are back with a new full-length studio release Exit 110 from Made Records.

iiO > Exit 110

This album is comprised of a mosaic of classic Moser dance anthems along with the distinctly euphoric vocals from Nadia as a featured artist - she split up the duo over 5 years ago to run solo but there’s no apparent difference to the familiar iiO formula since she’s on every single song on this album but the outro/title track ‘Exit 110’. KaPe > your Coachella correspondent

KaPe > I'm really excited to be a new co-conspirator on zBORED. Thanks Marc :) That being said, he's asked me to write something to let you in on why he invited me to give my input.

I love music. From Rancid [my personal favorite] to Funeral Party to Chromeo to NIN to... well, you get the idea. Some people blow their paychecks on shoes or their cars, but my weaknesses are concerts, festivals, and CD's [the real ones]. In fact, I'm getting packed up for my fourth Coachella as we speak - or as I write, I guess. Tomorrow we hit the road for the best weekend of the year.

I've also been lucky enough to attend Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, and am working on Glastonbury 2014 as a send off to my 20's. Don't worry though - I have no plans of letting the impending doom of 30 slow me down.

Marc and I have been to several shows together, and this summer looks like it will only add to our collection of stubs. I hope that my contribution to zBORED...contributes something? I mean, I hope you enjoy what I have to say, and if you don't, well, you're probably wrong :)

Thanks up front for any feedback and/or conversation. I'll think of a clever sign-off later [is 'Party on' copyrighted???].
