New Music >> True Blood Soundtrack [Volume 4]

True Blood Volume 4 >> So a new season of True Blood is looming and just in time for this carnival is its soundtrack that features many a beast of the stage. Music from the original series on HBO will be out this Tuesday [5.28] to give some lifeblood to your Memorial Weekend hangover.

Soundtrack >> True Blood Vol. 4

This compilation is made of tracks from artists I've really grown to love over the years in The Naked & Famous, Alabama Shakes, Warpaint and My Morning Jacket, who contribute a cover of 'Turn Turn Turn'. I think this version is actually better than the original but doesn't really hold a candle to that of The Byrds'.

Speaking of covers outshining the original, Eric Burdon of The Animals and Jenny Lewis nailed it with a new rendition of 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' on the trailblazing 1st track of this album.

Oh you don't like it when people mess with the original version? Relax. Howlin' Wolf's very own 'Smokestack Lightnin' is on this too and in pure rugged blues form along with Koko Taylor's OG 'Whatever I Am, You Made Me'. So there you go, grandpa. I supposed you want me to stop thumping my goddam bass too?

Iggy Pop also teams up with Bethany Costino on the power track 'Let's Boot And Rally'. So brilliant. I love Bethany in Best Coast and this was a great collaboration with the legendary king of punk of the Americas. I think this one and 'The Sun' by The Naked And Famous are the best songs on this album.

All the aforementioned are great plus there are some good ones from The Heavy, Bosco Delray and Deep Vally. All of which compelled me to dig deeper into their stuff and possibly becoming a fan. I'd say the only blemish to an otherwise pristine soundtrack is the last track by Los Lobos. I just think they are generally too cheesy.

True Blood Volume 4 is super succulent and curated richly with old and new music with charms to soothe the savage beast. It will be available this Tuesday so you best take a bite.
