tunesday 9.28 > bad religion / jimmy eat world

New music new music > another double dose of fresh sounds releases today with new albums from Bad Religion and Jimmy Eat World. Excited? You should be. To compensate for a previous week of weak sauce releases the gods have bestowed upon us highly anticipated gifts from 2 artists who stick to the formula and consistently put out excellence.

Bad Religion The Dissent of Man > just in time for the fall tour that kicks off next week, the iconic Gary Graffin and gang provide the world with some new revolution and more proof they can rock into a 4th decade of punky freshness. This ought to hold you over until their show in Tempe on NOV9.

album cover > dissent of man

Jimmy Eat World Invented > last year was the 10-year anniversary of the Clarity album and hopefully the desert native JEW is back w/ something just as celebratory. This band does not miss so picking this up is a wise investment. The Invented tour rolls through Tempe OCT30 [Halloween Saturday] so I motion we beg and we Tweet that Jimmy give us another show that is not on All Hallow's Eve Eve before their Europe tour kicks off in NOV. Perhaps a secret show again and not at Modified Arts this time. Capacity is key, right?

This here is mix tape material     :j Marc

tele tagteam > eastbound & bored

It's not TV it's HBO > Sunday nights on the Home Box Office are indeed spectacular and indeed incomplete now with the recent season finales of Entourage and Hung [and True Blood if you're into the whole vampire thing].

But tonight second seasons of Bored to Death and Eastbound & Down return to fill those voids on Sunday evenings.

The former stars Jason Schwartzman as an anxious writer compelled to take on a side gig in private investigation and his socially awkward friends played by a Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis. All three are brilliant in this series and the follow up season to their misadventures should be as such.

The even more anticipated series return of Danny McBride as a washed up pitcher with a still crude attitude in Eastbound & Down. This season Kenny Powers takes his 101-MPH fastball south of the border which likely means no more April and no more Stevie [or Ashley Schaeffer played by Will Ferrell] but from the leaks and trailers there are some funny Mexicanos to accompany Kenny.

If you've seen both of these series you know the deal but if you haven't, do yourself a favor and get caught up w/ season 1 of each and DVR this season. What else are you going to watch after Boardwalk Empire anyway?

Have a great last week of September, peeps     :j Marc

tunesday 9.21 > the state?

New music Tunesday not so much > there is nothing going on today for new music - that is, there is nothing that exciting about today's releases. Perhaps Crush from Abe Vigoda [the band, not Sal from The Godfather] is the most notable. But I haven't heard much around this release and I can't relay good hullabaloo to you in good conscience.

But a treat for your ears emerges today not in the form of music but of comedy. If you love and miss MTV's The State from the early 90's like I do then you'll probably get after Comedy for Gracious Living as well. Most of the crew seem to be doing well these days and are still as hilarious as ever so I say you shan't be bored with a new production from David Wain, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black and company.

Warm wishes of ROFLMFAO's     :j Marc

monday funday > beelzebub welker

Monday night football > football is back and so is Wes welker in major way. The skeptics bypassed him through the 5th round in 1 of my fantasy football leagues b/c of last year's devastating knee injury and I took a gamble. Thankfully Wes and his infernal majesty are in cahoots, see for yourself. Praise Wes' eternal burning for the sake of my fantasy team!

Tonight the 5-time superbowl champion 49ers take on last year's victors the NOLA saints. We saw 2 good games for the inaugural Monday night showdown last week and that got me thinking about what if we had 2 every Monday? And why not 1 Thursday game every week? I doubt that I'm alone in this desire but apparently there is something bigger that has prevented it.

Whatevers, tonight should be another gritty and physical match, hopefully a close game and hopefully a home team victory [cue the 'high hopes' song].

Have a great week yoz     :j Marc

tele tagteam > it’s always sunny in the league

Funny tele > this Thursday evening brings sitcomical tidings with new seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League on FX.

First off it's sweet Dee and the gang from Paddy's Pub in their 6th season of Philly funny. In tonight's premier Mac fights gay marriage. His endeavor to protect the sanctity of marriage should be just as intriguing as his ill-intended efforts in the abortion rally so tonight's episode should be another laughathon for sure. Played by the show's creator, Rob McElhenney, Mac has really grown on me since the first season and into my fav character when the night man w/ cat eyes cameth to rape the boy in Charlie's play. I can hardly wait for what will ensue with the gang this season. The LOL's are back!

Following Sunny is the second season of The League and the timing is perfect during week 2 of everyone's fantasy football season. This show's concept is so simple yet genius and it certainly does not hurt to have funny mofos Nick Kroll and Paul Scheer as main characters. Every guy and an increasing population of the ladies can relate to this show since fantasy football has taken off to an insane level.

Not unlike so many other people I know, my participation and dedication to fantasy sports have grown tenfold. In football alone, I am now taking on 3 fantasy teams, 2 pick'ems and a survivor league. I'll probably be awful in each but it will be months of intrigue to accompany the investment.

So who's hands will be fondling the Shiva this year? Will Dr. Dre and his dental goalposts be victorious again or will some other sucktard take the trophy? I'm willing to turn this into bet if anyone is interested. Yes, it has come to this.

Here's a to prosperous fantasy football season to all of you and cheers to all the ladies with vaginal hubris. Please enjoy this classic gem by Taco :j

tunesday 9.14 > Chromeo / Blonde Redhead

Today is a double-dose of freshness for your ears because both Chromeo and Blonde Redhead release albums for new music tunesday.

Chromeo Business Casual > the wait is over for new grooves from Chromeo. Aside from a few tracks on rando compilations over the last few years, the duo has been relatively quiet.

Have a listen to 'don't turn the lights on'. The feel is familiar yet freshly funky and it's that Fancy Footwork causing Chromeo that we know and love. If this release is as good as I think it will be then maybe I'll forget about their canceling the PHX stop on this year's tour [z:/rumor has it that it's sb-1070 related; what's your take on artists bypassing tour stops in the name of politics?].

Blonde Redhead Penny Sparkle > also nearly mute studio-wise, Blonde Redhead bring their follow up to 23 to the tunesday party.

Judging by the sound of 'here sometimes' they've stuck to a mellow melody but added a few more needed beats since their last release. It's not the most amazing video ever but I'm really digging this track and I'll definitely be picking this disc up along w/ the new Chromeo as well.

I'll have grades posted later today, feel free to add your 2 cents :j

tunesday 9.7 > Interpol

Interpol Interpol > fans of ill indie electro should be very pleased for today Interpol returns w/ the release of their self-titled album.

Interpol is the long overdue follow-up to 2007's Our Love to Admire. Hopefully, 3 years in the making produces some good earhole pleasure. From the sound of 'barricade', the first single, the band has returned to that rad formula of their Antics album sound that initially got me listening to Interpol.

Check out the cool video and holler at me in the evening if you want to know if the disc is good; I will have picked it up and gave it a listen by then.

Enjoy the short workweek ;j @Marc
